North Pole Adventure

Journey to the North Pole with us. Come dressed in your Christmas PJs, bring your cuddly, and enjoy movement, song, and merry dance led by elf. This event is filled with holiday magic to make memories and is FREE and open to anyone.

Outline

  • Mindfulness and gratitude with fun breathing exercises

  • Hop on Santa’s sleigh movement game

  • Sip on some hot cocoa & a treat

  • Hear a story read by Santa and his elf

  • Create a craft worthy of the Rudolph award

  • Rest with your lovey and your kiddo as we journey around the world on Christmas night to make it memorable for all the kids in the world

  • Take pictures with Santa (additional cost as a fundraiser)

Other activities include writing a letter to Santa and making a Compassion Card for local people who need a little love during this time of year. There will be two tables with these quiet activities to complete before or after class (or during for kids who might need a break).

In addition: cookie kits will be available for purchase and pick-up. Funds go towards sustaining our free programming!

Each session will have a space talk, covering topics from our solar system, gravity, moons, and NASA, followed by a small and each class session will include an out of this world art projects.

Make Art with Flair Like Mary Blair

Ages 9+

Mary Blair was a illustrator, animator, and designer for Walt Disney in the 1940's and 50's, working on many films inckuding Cinderella, and Alice and Wonderland. She designed the art for It's a small world at Disney and she illustrated children's books as well as many other art projects during that era. She worked with a fresh modern abstract style that was full of color and movement. We will learn to use color, movement , shapes and patterns to create our own Blair inspired pieces.

Each week our meditation will be based on colors and our yoga will be from a Mary Blair illustration movie I am going to ask them to watch during the week.

 

Class 1 Introduction to May Blair. We will talk about her story and career. We will look at book with her art work and discuss some if her films. we will also discuss the modernism and abstract movement of that era and look at other artists with similar styles. We will begin to make our own mark making tools to use in our work.

Class 2 We will continue with our mark making tools and start painting papers and cutting shapes to use in our work. we will discuss the Mary Blair movie watched during the week while looking at still of the film. we will learn to look at the way shapes and patterns are used for effect .

Class 3 We will do some monoprinting on our painted and collected papers and start to build our pieces while discussing composition and talking about the art work in the previous weeks movie.

Class 4 We will bring it all together to complete our pieces and share the story emerging from them. We will discuss the effects and inspiration of Mary Blairs work in today's world.

The most popular tabletop role playing game Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition! This will be a fun eight week campaign for those ready to adventure. Our heroes (students) will be heading out to save the medieval landscape from an evil ruler. Along the way they will face several challenges, battles, and make friends. Dungeons and Dragons can serve as a great tool for teaching communication and critical thinking skills. This is a self-created campaign that follows the rules of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. I will happily work with any student who doesn't know how to play. The easiest way to learn is to play!

Mini-Camp "Lovebirds Mobile"

We’ll be making waterless snow globes with mason jars! This project will include learning the basics of polymer sculpture, setting up scenes, and how snow is created.
