Halloween Yoga & Story for Kids

Halloween is one of my very favorite times of year. I love it as a parent and as a teacher. It sparks my creativity and I think it inspires the imagination of kids! I always like to create special yoga classes and homeschool lesson plans to integrate the mystery and (not) mayhem that is the holiday.

As usual, there are so many ways to incorporate yoga and mindfulness into the festivities and fun, especially through movement, stories, and crafts. As a special treat, I am sharing one of my go-to hits of a story and some poses that you can do with your children and/or students! Practice these and don’t forget to watch the song right here on Youtube.

5 Little Ghosts

5 little ghosts gliding through the night, one looks at the moon & feels a fright

4 little ghosts sitting in a tree, one swings down, saying "wee"!

3 little ghosts dancing in a house, one dances away with a quiet mouse

2 little ghosts hiding with some bats, one sneaks with a cute little cat

1 little ghost resting her head, feels so peaceful in her cozy bed

Watch the video one or two times to get the movements down and then practice together. Mindfulness is just as important as movement and there are ways to put a Halloween spin on breathing/pranayama techniques, meditation, and even yoga nidra! As always, it is important to explain to children that yoga is not only a fun thing to do, but is very special. And while we get to have fun with it, we should always honor and respect that it shows us how to be a kind person and that it is a way to live our lives with purpose.

All that said, some of these “gimmicks” are what draws kiddos in and allows them to see just how great yoga is!

Have fun! You can also print the picture below here :)
