Pregnancy

Prenatal Yoga

SATURDAYS @ 11:15 AM • 55 MINUTES

We are your final destination for prenatal yoga in Jax and beyond. Prenatal Yoga is a perfect practice to begin during pregnancy. (That’s a lot of P’s!) A prenatal yoga practice can help you relieve discomfort, meet people going through the same thing, and help you relax. It gives you a moment to connect to your breath, body, and baby which is critical to your overall wellness. Most doctors and ACOG agree! Prenatal yoga is gentle enough to be safe for most people, yet challenging enough to help you prepare for birth and parenthood. And we always have tea and snacks after. We can’t wait to see you!

Postpartum

Having a baby takes a toll on your body. Finding the time to engage in self-care while also restoring functionality in your pelvic floor, alleviating pain in your back, and finding community sounds good on paper but is difficult when you are a busy new mom. Thankfully, we offer two classes that are perfect to add to your routine and are meant to go together as they are both four week series.

Heal Happy: Postpartum Recovery (part one)

One-on-One Sessions +Various Limited Series Dates

This focused four-class personalized series utilizes techniques week-by-week to identify the pelvic floor and core. Learn to move and breathe with greater awareness and intention in your daily life to reduce stress and prevent injury on this weakened musculature, correct the results of poor alignment and reduced functionality resulting from pregnancy, and rehab your entire body and mind after birth. Using exercises that integrate the breath and movement, with the use of yoga balls, blocks, and bolsters, this class strengthens and protects your back, pelvic floor, and everything in-between. Babies are welcome. Recommended start time 8 weeks postpartum.

postnatal/Baby Yoga (part two)

online+limited series dates

This class is perfect for sharing and modeling yoga with your infant and toddler while using dynamic movement that re-stabilizes your entire body, alleviates tension and pain, and engages your mind and body for optimal postural awareness. Bond with your baby and tot as we play and interact with them through music, stories, and games while simultaneously relieving the stress of new parenthood. But it’s more than just a class, or something to do-it’s where you’ll find your new BFFs and share the joys (and not-so-joys) of new parenthood! Recommended start time is 8 weeks postpartum and preferably after Heal Happy. Family yoga can be attended from the beginning, whenever you feel comfortable and is always on our schedule.

Childbirth education

If you are looking for birth classes and newborn education in Jax (or online!), then you are in the right place! You’re a learner-a preparer. Knowing that you can access information made for millennial parents and have the ongoing support of the teacher is invaluable to you.

Why choose us?

We know it is important to you that your teacher is qualified and the material solid. More importantly, we know that birth and babies are not one-size-fits all and the ability to tailor your learning experience is critical in your feeling prepared and at-ease.

You also know that information is easily obtained via the internet, and if you really wanted, you could simply spend hours scouring info. But gaining information is one piece of the puzzle. You want techniques and skills to stay calm. To talk with your care team in the most efficient way where you’re respected and heard. To make decisions when it seems like everything is going off-course. And actual skills to feel okay when life does its thing and takes a detour. That is a practice-a yoga and mindfulness practice-and you know that mindset is everything.

Our childbirth class incorporates mindfulness approaches to strengthen communication skills, movement techniques, and decision-making skill development.  Knowledge is power. Our classes increase confidence through a comprehensive program that covers topics such as:

  • stages of pregnancy and stages of the postpartum period

  • vaginal and cesarean birth processes

  • comfort measures, birth wishes and options, hospital policy

  • reducing stress and increasing confidence with mindfulness techniques

  • physical and emotional exercises to prepare and cope

  • breathing techniques to manage discomfort and fear

  • meditation and journaling during pregnancy and postpartum for emotional wellness

  • decision-making skills & effective communication to be heard and to understand

  • postpartum recovery, infant care, and child development

You’ll delve into using meditation, mindfulness, and yoga for achieving your best birth. The best part is that you have the option of one-on-one individualized attention in these private courses so you can ask all the questions without guilt or embarrassment, which is perfect for busy introverts!

In-Studio $295 •  Virtual $189

Conducted for two weeks. Each class is 2-2.5 hours long. We’ll introduce integrating meditation and mindfulness into daily life and we’ll develop strong communication and decision-making skills through theory, games, and activities to get fully prepared with the big day and beyond. This is taught individually, on your schedule, in-studio strongly encouraged if you are local to Jacksonville. Group classes are offered twice a year.

Topics covered:

  • What happens during labor? How do I deal with pain and discomfort during labor?

  • What happens during the cesarean process? Why would I need a cesarean or induction?

  • How can I talk to my provider about my wishes? What if my preferences are no longer on the table? Then what?

  • What are my options when it comes to certain procedures? How can I make decisions when my head is spinning?

  • How can my partner be most helpful?

  • What happens after birth? How will my healing be? What should I expect? How do I build a support network?

  • When do I need to feed my baby? Change their diaper? Bring them into the doctor?

  • How can I calm myself through movement and meditation?

  • What are some ways to take care of my physical and emotional well-being before, during, and after pregnancy?

How Grow Birth & Baby came to be!

Our curriculum & pregnancy/postpartum programming is science-based and dynamic and was developed by a professional educator with over ten years of subject matter expertise in biology, perinatal health, pedagogy, yoga/mindfulness, and curriculum development. Heather Horrell, M.Ed, E-RYT 200, PCES and owner of Grow spent over three years writing the material and consulted with various physical therapists, RN’s, and teachers. She took care to ensure each class is factual, interactive, inclusive, and fun! She is a mom to six children (all having come into the world vastly different!) who enjoys crafting, the beach, and traveling…mainly for food.
